Con la canzone I wanna be your slave, la band glam rock romana ha vinto nella categoria «Miglior video alternativo» ed è poi salita sul palco del Prudential Center di Newark nel New Jersey per una elettrizzante performance dal vivo del nuovo hit Supermodel.
Il riconoscimento arriva sulla scia degli altri successi di Victoria, Damiano, Ethan e Thomas: da Sanremo ed Eurovision 2021, alle apparizioni al Tonight Show di Jimmy Fallon e Saturday Night Live, il palcoscenico dei Rolling Stones lo scorso novembre e Coachella in aprile.
La cerimonia di premiazione è stata presentata da LL COOL J, Nicki Minaj e Jack Harlow. I Red Hot Chili Peppers hanno ricevuto il Global Icon Award per la carriera e si sono esibiti dal vivo. Nicki Minaj ha ricevuto il Video Vanguard Award. Sul palco si sono esibiti anche Anitta, BLACKPINK, J Balvin, Jack Harlow, Kane Brown, Lizzo, Marshmello x Khalid, Nicki Minaj e Panic! At The Disco. Infine Taylor Swift – che ha vinto tre premi – ha annunciato ufficialmente il suo decimo album in studio Midnights, in uscita venerdì 21 ottobre.
